the last place you look – for The Austin Beer Fest

I’m feeling better tonight, Samaras.

Let’s pretend it was all a dream, Samaras.

Wu-Tang Clan @

House of Blues Houston: 01.12-12

Back in the dark ages of my career, I took a full time job in a photography studio, while still running my own photography business. In addition, I went to school full time to finish my Masters degree in Literature. It was a trying time. Developing images of families in matching white polos is soul-sucking affair.

The key to staying sane in the dark room from 8 to 5 was the responsibility of a little boom box that allowed me to play whatever my heart desired. I discovered a lot of new music during that period. The Wu-Tang Clan especially saw heavy rotation and was an incessant nuisance to other people in the studio. Frequent intercom calls would echoe in the dark room, “Turn it down!” My co-workers and boss didn’t understand that the Wu-Tang Clan is nothing to f**k with.

In their own strange way, the Wu-Tang inspired me to Bring the Ruckus when I was “laid off.” Immediately after the lay off, I laced up my metaphorical Timberlands, embraced my Wu-like swagger and unrepentantly pursued my art and photography career. I haven’t looked back since. Wu-Tang forever! RIP Ol’ Dirty Bastard . . .

Can we start again, Samaras?
